Weekly Worship Service

St. Brigids Worship Service

St. Brigids is Christ Church Cathedral’s Sunday Evening congregation, meeting weekly at 5.30pm.

We are an emerging, LGBTQ-affirming Christian community rooted in the Anglican tradition located in downtown Vancouver. This is a Christian community where questions are honoured, faith is nurtured, and discipleship pursued.

St. Brigids meets for worship in the Cathedral’s chancel, located on the upper level of this historic church on the corner of West Georgia and Burrard.

You are welcome to this historic Anglican Cathedral Church in the heart of Vancouver located on the traditional territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-waututh First Nations.

What to Expect

stbrigidseucharistFounded as a ministry of the Cathedral in its 125th year, the St. Brigids congregation emerges from the liturgical and spiritual traditions of the Anglican church. Together, we’re experimenting with ways of more actively involving all members of our community in the creation of and participation in the liturgy.

Our St. Brigids liturgy has a familiar shape to the Cathedral’s morning liturgies with some noticeable differences.

Our evening begins with a wide welcome, an overview of the service and music practice before we gather with the help of an opening song and prayers. Throughout the liturgy, we make use of times of silence and stillness. We read scripture, sing and pray together as we sit in the round, facing one another.

During this time, children are invited to take part in Godly Play, a Montessori-based approach to exploring the scriptures.

The homily (or sermon) is shared, and offers a time when members of the community respond to and complete the initial reflections offered by the preacher.

We gather together around the altar to participate in the Eucharist, offering bread and wine to one another in the name of Jesus. Finally, we are sent out into the world, as we seek to live lives reflective of Christ’s gospel throughout the remainder of the week.

Children

Children of all ages are more than welcome, and will be cared for and honoured by the congregation. We believe in the importance of including children within worship, that they might come to know the rhythms of worship that form each of us. We provide a variety of activities which children can occupy themselves within the space, including books, colouring, quiet toys and a variety of other activities. If St. Brigids runs a little late for your family, you’re welcome to slip out before the service is over if you need to.

You can find out more about our offerings for children here.
